WELCOME TO THE STRIDE UK NATIONAL DAIRY MOBILITY INITIATIVE

AN INDUSTRY WIDE NOT-FOR-PROFIT INITIATIVE, WE ARE COMMITTED TO HELPING IMPROVE DAIRY COW MOBILITY AND ENERGISE THE INDUSTRY TO ACT TO REDUCE LAMENESS IN THE NATIONAL HERD.
The initiative was formed in 2024, with the initial objective to launch a major, nationwide survey to help build a better picture of dairy cow mobility in the UK.
Stride, ran the most comprehensive dairy cow mobility survey that year, which informed the development of an industry report focussed on signposting the challenges and opportunities of how cow mobility can be improved to reduce treatment costs, improve productivity and profitability.
The survey results informed the creation of a series of factsheets and videos to help tackle some of the most prevalent issues affecting cow mobility and foot health in UK dairy herds.
We also run a series of farm events each summer, demonstrating approaches that can be applied in commercial situations to deliver better foot health and mobility.
Stride is a not-for-profit initiative, managed by a group of industry partners and supported by many organisations across the industry.
Compromised mobility continues to be one of the top three cattle health and welfare challenges facing UK producers. It impacts herd fertility, productivity, profitability and sustainability.
Losses attributed to poor mobility contribute to the environmental impact of livestock farming.
It is calculated to cost the UK dairy farming industry £250 million per year in treatment costs and lost production.

The aim of Stride, based around an industry wide survey, is to identify current producers’ views on mobility, its impact on herd health and welfare, and ultimately the business bottom line.
The outcomes will be used to communicate clear actions to help producers take steps to reduce lameness in their herds and to mitigate the costs and consequences to their businesses.
